HOLISTIC CHILDHOOD ENRICHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES FOR CHILDREN IN VILLAGES,MADURAI,INDIA

Goodwill Social work Centre has been taking up a Holistic Childhood enrichment and development services project’ for children in the age group of 3-10 in low and moderate income communities in the villages and backward areas in our project locations in and around Madurai, Tamilnadu, South India with an aim of developing them academically, socially, physically and morally and the ‘Total child’ in children by nurturing and fulfilling their needs and rights. The project offers “Integrated services (IS) to work with children and their families which reflect a holistic understanding of children’s developmental needs and the capacities of their parents and carers to respond to their needs, within the wider family and environmental context.
Since 1981 Goodwill social work centre has been involved in development activities directed towards children and young people in dysfunctional families and vulnerable children in particular. Through direct management and operations of intensive family preservation programmes for children and young people in dysfunctional families, non-formal employment training for drop-outs and young women, children’s rights education, community technology services for children and young adults in low and moderate income families, promoting children’s rights through artwork, children’s environmental education and communication programmes and NGO capacity building initiatives, substantial gains have been made and lessons have been learnt.

The programme benefits the following target groups:

Target group :
1. Children who belong to low and moderate socioeconomic status families.
2. Children who belong to Dalit communities (socially excluded classes in India)
3. Children whose parents work in unorganised sectors, including agriculture.

Objectives of the project:
1.Being Healthy: enjoying good physical and mental health and living a healthy life style
2.Staying safe: being protected from harm and neglect through good parenting programmes
3. Learning through art , play and recreation : education enriched by play
materials art training and suitable methods of teaching
4. Exposure towards making a positive contribution to community : being involved with the
community and society and not engaging in anti-social or offending behaviour

Project activites:
1.Children edutainment services by conducting Children’s art and craft training and environmental
health rights
2.Life skills based hygiene education for children covering water,sanitation,personal hygiene
3.Health promotion and health care referral
4.Parental skills training sessions for parents

I invite friends and members of Cultural Fusion AaP possible financial support to our project.Your will be utilised towards procurement of educational play materials for two nursery schools,building up a mini childrens' library,Purchase of art maerials and tools,Children's computer games and salary for project staff etc.The GOODWILL has a plan to provide used compters to these two schools.It will also make efforts to organise healh care programmes for the children ,good parenting programmes etc.
