I had the chance to have a wonderful dialogue with Bernard Lietaer, a monetary architect. Bernard Lietaer, author of the forthcoming “Of Human Wealth” (Citerra Press, 2007) and “The Future of Money” (London: Random House, 2001), has been active in the domain of money systems for a period of 25 years in an unusual variety of functions. While at the Central Bank in Belgium he co-designed and implemented the convergence mechanism (ECU) to the single European currency system. During that period, he also served as President of Belgium’s Electronic Payment System.
There are some excellent insights in this interview, and it will give you a new perspective on the economic crisis. In addition, you can get Bernard's recommendations in his paper
Crisis 2008.
Not everyone is running scared or clinging desperately to what is failing. Yes, there are some who are charting the way forward with solutions that will be fundamental to shaping the infrastructure needed. Dr. Lietaer will discuss the counter-intuitive finding on the relationship between community values and money. He will touch on the stories that led him to contribute to his latest white paper and new book
published in French in December 2008 (due out in Enlish this year).
